Our annual registration fee is one of the very lowest in the Roswell area --- $60 per
scout (or $40 for registered Webelos who are crossing over) The fee defrays the
cost of national registration, a subscription to Boys Life magazine, and awards and
badges. Extra fees are charged on an event participation basis, such as camping,
food, entry fees for parks and other facilities. The annual registered adult fee is
$10.
A Boy Scout Class A uniform is required for all Scouts and registered adults. It
consists of a shirt, neckerchief, neckerchief slide and patches (total cost for these
items is approximately $50.00). The Troop provides new members the neckerchief,
shoulder loops and Scout Handbook. We uses three different colored t-shirts for a
Class B uniform. The cost for t-shirts, decorated with the Scouting logo and
information about Troop 985, is $20 for the set of 3. You may purchase additional
T-shirts for $7 apiece as you outgrow or wear out your first set. Scouts must wear
their Class A shirt whenever being transported to or from an outing, including camp
outs.
The Troop also participates in the annual Boy Scout Popcorn Sales campaign; scouts
are expected to sell at least $100 worth of popcorn or donate $35 to the troop.
Occasionally the Troop takes on a major fundraising project such as a golf
tournament or participates in Northbrook UMC's Christmas Tree sale.
Parents and other leaders are involved as registered Adult Leaders and as members
of the Troop Committee. Adult Leaders help guide the boys through their
advancements as they are taught basic Scouting skills. The Troop Committee
provides logistical support such as transportation on outings, gear, fundraising,
special projects and service projects. All parents are invited to participate in the
Troop Committee, camping trips and other activities and special projects.
We recently outfitted the troop with all brand-new camping equipment (tents, dining
flys, stoves, lanterns, cook kits, etc.), so we have terrific gear for our outings.
